GENERAL BIOLOGY:
(Elective - Grade 10, 11, 12 - one-year course) A one-year course suggested of those students who are interested in the study of living things and their relationship to each other a less technical situation. Students will be exposed to units in the classification of living things, the appearance of microscopic life, biological terminology used in the public media, biological facts related to sickness and health, as well as to problems in the world which a study of biology might aid. It is designed to give a general broad concept of living things. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. Career opportunities are discussed. It includes laboratory experiences. This course is not a college unit. CCCS are met in this program.

C P BIOLOGY:
(Elective - Grade 9, 10, 11, 12- one-year course) A one-year course suggested for those students who will be going on to college as a non-science major, or for those who are interested in enrolling in the Anatomy and Physiology program. The program is a course in the study of the structure and function of living things. Emphasis is placed on laboratory work. This allows students to derive a sequence of concepts from a series of laboratory experiences. Students will cover cellular and molecular biology, genetics and the diversity of living things, certain areas of microbiology, human biology and the relationship of living things to their environment. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. CCCS in Biology are met in this program. Career opportunities are explored.

BIO LAB-H:
(HONORS - Elective - Grade *9, 10, 11, 12 - one-year course) A one-year course that is a laboratory oriented. The program dwells on the more technical aspects of biology. It is suggested for students who plan to major in any area of science in college, and for those who intend to enroll in the Anatomy and Physiology Middle College program at the high school. During the year the student will cover units in Linnaean classification, the basic anatomy of the human, the mechanism of evolution, basic chemical reactions of living things and use of the compound microscope. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. Recommendation from prior teachers and an evidence of scientific interest are prerequisites from enrollment in this course. The course meets CCCS in Biology. Career opportunities are explored.

C P CHEMISTRY:
(Elective - Grade 10, 11, 12 - one-year course) A one-year laboratory course suggested for those students who will go to college as a non-science major or for those who are interested in chemistry as a science. This course aims to relate the fundamental theories and basic facts of chemistry to each other and to every day activities. It is a basic chemistry course, which studies the chemical makeup of all matter and its changes. Through the use of measurements and calculations from experimental operations, emphasis is placed on learning to observe, draw conclusions and communicate findings through laboratory reports. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. Career features emphasize a variety of opportunities for meaningful work in the industrial world. Chemistry CCCS are met. Students entering this program should be co-enrolled in Algebra II.

CHEM STUDY-H:
(HONORS - Elective - Grade *10, 11, 12 - one-year course) One-year laboratory course that is suggested for those students who plan to major in science or a related field in college and for those who have above average grades in mathematics, a high general comprehension ability and a science interest. It is a laboratory-oriented course, which tries to develop through observation, experimentation and measurements the unifying principles which interrelate the diverse phenomena in science. Heavy emphasis is placed on experiencing the various chemical principles thereby allowing the student to maximum opportunity for discovery. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. Chemistry CCCS are met. Career Opportunities are explored. Students entering this program should be co-enrolled in Algebra II.

CONCEPTUAL PHYSICS:
(Elective - Grade 11, 12 - one-year course) Conceptual Physics is based on focusing students on concepts rather than computation. The emphasis is on thinking and relating concepts to experiences and the world. The course is implemented through visual presentations such as demonstrations, videotapes, videodiscs, computer simulation (through CD ROM and specially designed computer physics programs). Outside readings are used to support the conceptual course. This course is a college unit. CCCS for Physics are met.

PHYSICS:
(Elective - Grade 11, 12- one-year course) This is a one-year course that is suggested for those going on to college especially those interested in some form of engineering. This course is a mathematical interpretation of natural phenomena. It is a basic physics course for the college bound student. The course is primarily laboratory oriented. It tries to develop through observation, experimentations and measurements, the principles and concepts, which make up the unique mathematical analysis of the world of physics. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. Emphasis is placed on gaining knowledge and understanding through laboratory experience and classroom activity. Career opportunities are explored. Mathematical proficiency is important. CCCS in Physics are met.

PHYSICS HONORS:
(Honors - Elective - Grade *11, 12 - one-year course) A very intensive first year course that concentrates on basic principles of physics and their applications through careful and selective treatment of well-chosen areas. The course provides a systemic introduction to the main principles of physics and emphasizes the development of conceptual understanding and problem solving using algebra and trigonometry. Calculus solutions maybe introduced with certain problems. It is designed to be equivalent of a first year college course for the non-engineering student. It provides a foundation for students in the life sciences, pre-medicine and some applied sciences, as well as other fields not directly related to science. Emphasis will be placed on a computer-based approach to physics laboratory activities. PASCO computer interfacing will allow the in-depth exploration of many physics concepts. The course uses a college text and mirrors the content of an Advanced Placement Physics Program. CCCS in Physics are met.

ESSENTIALS OF PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY:
(Elective - Grade 11, 12- one-year course) A one-year course that integrates basic concepts of Chemistry and Physics in accordance with CCCS. The course will emphasize the use of concepts learned with events found in the students' everyday lives. Visual presentations, demonstrations, student centered labs, long-term projects, and outside reading. Technology will also be available for student use. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. This course is NOT a college unit. CCCS are met for Physics and Chemistry.

HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY-MC:
( Middle College - Elective-Grade *11, 12 - one-year course) Suggested for those students who plan to major in a life science or related field in college. It is honors level anatomy and physiology course and is laboratory oriented. The program develops through observation and experimentation of the systems of the human body. The units covered include terminology and anatomical positions and structures of the human body. It also includes a unit on the effects of drugs, alcohol and tobacco on the human systems. It is an in-depth laboratory oriented course. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. It is a Middle College offering with college criteria. This is a Middle College/AP Level Course (see Middle College description).

AP ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE:
(Advanced Placement - Elective - 11, *12 - one year course) This course is the College Board's program for students to explore college level Environmental Science while in high school and to receive advanced placement credit. The goal of this science course is to provide students with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and to examine alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them. The course will focus on the 'real science' behind environmental problems and issues, and it will be recommended that students successfully complete three years of high school science (one year each of earth science, biology, and chemistry) before enrolling in this rigorous course. Laboratory and field study are envisioned to be an important element of the course. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. Student's participating in the program are expected to take the AP exam. Certain CCCS are included in this program.

ASTRONOMY: THE SOLAR SYSTEM:
(Elective - Grade 10, 11, 12 - one-semester) This one semester offering in Astronomy emphasizes the Solar System and its members. It will introduce the methods of astronomy and will lead you through a tour of all the objects that circle the sun through field trips, virtual experiences, the Internet and actual observation. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. Although not required, you should have one year of Earth Science prior to this class. A college unit will be awarded if Astronomy: The Universe is also elected. Certain CCCS are included.

ASTONOMY: THE UNIVERSE:
(Elective - Grade 10, 11, 12 - one-semester) This semester course in Astronomy relates to studies of stars beyond our stars and galaxies beyond our galaxy. It also examines the origins of the Universe. The course includes field trips, virtual experiences, use of the Internet, and actual observation. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. Although this semester can stand alone, Astronomy: The Solar System and Earth Science should be taken prior to this class. A college unit will be awarded if Astronomy: The Solar System is also elected. Certain CCCS are included.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE:
(Elective - Grade *8, 9, 10, 11, 12 - one year course) The course is a basic Physical Science course with chemistry, physics and earth science presentations. The program tries to develop through observation, experimentation, and measurement, the principles and concepts that make up the active world of chemistry, physics, and earth science. Emphasis is placed on reinforcing concepts through laboratory experience and classroom activities designed by the instructor to meet individual needs of each particular class. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. CCCS are met in this program. Career opportunities are discussed.

(Special Placement - Grade 9 - one-year course) A survey course of general knowledge of science areas such as earth science, chemistry and physics, which can be adjusted to the level of students. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. The course develops an understanding on the part of the students of processes of all sciences and an appreciation of the applications of scientific knowledge to everyday life. CCCS in science are met in this program.

(Special Placement - Grade 10 - one-year course) A survey course of biological knowledge, which can be adjusted to the level of students. The course develops an understanding of processes closely associated with biological and environmental sciences. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. Emphasis is placed on an appreciation of the applications of scientific knowledge to everyday life. CCCS in science are met in this program.

(Special Placement - Grade 11, 12 - one-year course) A science course that focuses the student on the basic concepts of Chemistry and Physics. Computer hardware and software will be used during the course of the program. The course will emphasize the use of concepts learned in the students' everyday lives as well as prepare them for HSPA. CCCS in science are met in this program.

COMPUTER SCIENCE I:
(Elective - Grade *9, 10, 11, 12 - one-year course) This course is an elective for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. It presents a comprehensive introduction to the program JAVA. Since a mathematical approach is used, a previous course in Algebra I is required, and a second year of college mathematics is recommend. Computer Science I provides the student with background knowledge for the operation of the computer and its peripheral devices with applications to business, mathematics and science. Career opportunities are explored. Certain CCCS are met with this program.

COMPUTER SCIENCE AP:
(Elective - 11, 12 - one-year course) Computer Science AP is a course designed to allow the student to attempt the Advanced Placement Computer Science AP test for college credit. The course closely parallels the structure of the AP Computer Science curriculum as established by the College Board. The only students well grounded with concepts from Computer Science I should enroll in this program of studies. Certain CCCS are met with this program.

TRANS/ELECTRIC TECH:
(Elective - Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 - one-semester course) This one semester course examines the science and technology of transportation. It also introduces microelectronics and its application to robotics. Emphasis is placed on student centered projects and activities utilizing computer software and hardware. Career paths are integrated throughout. Certain CCCS are met with this program.

ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY:
(Elective - Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 - one-semester course) This one-semester course introduces students to environmental issues and how certain forms of technology are used to monitor said environment. Also studied are technological advances in industry and the positive or negative environmental impact of those industries. Project based learning is emphasized. Career paths are examined and guest speakers will be brought in to further student's exposure to related job opportunities. Certain CCCS are met with this program.
